Felicia The Joy of Life

This amazing young dancer was introduced to me one of my friends.
Felicia, (Joy in English) had recently finished her modern dance studies in New York. And she was staying in Isla Mujeres, Mexico ( Women’s Island) part time of the year. We had seen in yoga classes couple of times but never talked much before our photo session. I felt right away the inspiration to create her dance images on the beach. I was glad to be part of her journey and capture the images for her from Mexico.
She came to meet me, a couple of her favourite outfits with her and then she danced … “Dance like nobody is watching” and she did.  We started with her jumps on the beach and they were breathtaking. She was in that moment flying and free. It was beautiful to see and capture how the human body can move and to see her passion for the dance. The creations are definitely more satisfying when people are doing something with passion. She definitely loved what she was doing.
I felt her freedom and joy as we walked on the streets of Isla Mujeres. We had decided most of the places in advance and improvised the rest according to the locations. Backgrounds, colours and situations get coming to us as we kept moving on. The best part of the creation was to let the life’s flow bring the inspiration to the images. And it did 🙂
The streets of Isla Mujeres offered the best outdoor studio for me and “Joy” kept dancing. She seemed like she was dancing about freedom, passion and change in her life.. might be about a couple of ups and downs on the road too 😉
She told that after her studies she was excited to start her dancing career in Europe. And like my last image in the series, dancing from a small door to bigger symbolizes the journey she will do with Joy.
